Estate-Plan Gifts Are a Meaningful Way to Say Thank You to USC VHH

Jeannie Flint and Dave Werbelow

Jeannie Flint and Dave Werbelow have deep roots in the Glendale community. Dave grew up in Northeast Los Angeles and graduated from USC in the Class of ’55. Jeannie was raised in Glendale and went on to serve as a principal in Glendale Unified School District—where two of her former students later became USC Verdugo Hills Hospital physicians, a fact she treasures. Over the years their family has relied on USC VHH during several health crises, and their respect for the hospital has only grown. They speak warmly of the doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for them and are consistently impressed by the hospital’s leading-edge equipment and the exceptional care it makes possible.

Their philanthropy reflects a philosophy of “giving while living.” Both Jeannie and Dave feel fortunate to be able to give back to the community that has meant so much to them. As they grow older, they say their appreciation for the physicians and healthcare providers who safeguard their health has only deepened, which has led them to focus their support more and more on healthcare. That commitment inspired them to include USC VHH in their estate plan.

For Jeannie and Dave, this decision is a way of expressing gratitude. They note that, like so many families in the community, USC VHH has saved their lives on multiple occasions. Including the hospital in their estate plan, they explain, allows them to say “thank you” in a meaningful and lasting way.
